    I have turned down a lot of opportunities to have my line sold elsewhere. Big box retailers have knocked at my door and I won’t even entertain a conversation with them. I’m just not interested in following the path of so many brands where the focus then becomes sales and numbers. All for the sake of the almighty dollar. Founders lose their soul when they have investors breathing down their neck. I see it all too often and that’s just not for me. (I happily own 100% of my company and I talk about a lot of this on the Glossy podcast.) But, the thought of having my products out in the real world (vs just online) is very exciting and I could not have chosen the right people to represent my line — estheticians and trained skincare professionals. These are my people and I am just so excited!

    New Estheticians Added to Our Team

    Speaking of estheticians, back when I owned skincare spas in Dallas (and previously in Boston) I was around estheticians all of the time. When we closed down the Dallas spas five years ago, and I was now a 100% product company, I wasn’t around estheticians anymore and missed it. I get a lot of new ideas from them so in the spirit of getting back to my roots, we are now employing more estheticians to serve various roles such as new product development, customer care, social media and marketing and ultimately, to serve you better. We have recently hired estheticians Amanda and Maddie who you will interact when you call or email us. We’re always here to give that personal touch.

    The ‘FLO-vember’ Challenge Tradition Continues

    As many of you know, my husband Florian of 22 years (and COO of our company) passed away six years ago from a short battle with cancer. Every year in November (his birthday month) when he was alive, we did ‘The FLO-vember Challenge” where we committed to a health goal and did it every day for the month. (We usually did burpees, ugh!) Me and the team have continued this tradition and it’s always a reminder of the importance of good health and keeps his spirit around. I know he is proud.

    Estheticians and Dermatologists Unite

    One of the things I love most about being in the beauty industry is the people I get to meet and learn from. This industry has some of the brightest, most innovative, creative people, and I never get tired of learning from them.

    A big highlight in November was not only getting to speak for the second year at the Science of Skincare Summit but this year I played three roles: I was a speaker, the co-chair of the esthetician track and an exhibitor showcasing our line. What is super cool about this summit is that it brings estheticians and dermatologists together. This is very rare. We all have the same purpose, which is to help improve lives by improving skin but our approaches can be different and we haven’t always played well together in the sandbox.

    This is now changing and we have a newfound respect for one another for how we view and treat skin and this summit is an example of that. It was an honor to be on a panel with well-known dermatologists (like Dr. Pimple Popper!) representing my fellow estheticians.
