Alternative Ways to Track Weight Loss

When you embark on a weight loss journey, you may find yourself focusing solely on one thing: the scale.

It’s easy to get hung up on that number and feel frustrated when it doesn’t budge, no matter how hard you try. While the pounds do play a part, they don’t tell the complete story, not by a long shot.

Let’s explore why scales don’t give the full picture and additional ways to track your progress for a more comprehensive understanding of just how far you’ve come.

  • How to Use Vitamin C Serum and Cream

Vitamin C is one of the most popular skincare ingredients and whether you’re new to Vitamin C or an avid user – you may be wondering how to use Vitamin C in your skincare routine and more specifically how to use a Vitamin C Cream or Vitamin C Serum

    What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help visibly brighten skin, even out skin tone and defend against free radical damage.

What are the different types of Vitamin C?

Classic Vitamin C in its purest form is highly unstable and as such you’re more likely to find its derivatives in your skin care products. L-Ascorbic Acid is Vitamin C’s purest form; other effective (and stable) derivatives include Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate and Retinyl Ascorbate.

What’s The Difference Between Vitamin C Cream and Vitamin C Serum?

Putting on a moisturizer or cream is an essential step in our skincare routine, but serums are typically used to target specific skin concerns.

    Vitamin C Cream

Creams are thicker in texture and primarily focus on hydrating. They act as a barrier to keep moisture and nutrients from leaving our skin.

Besides delivering these benefits, our lightweight Vitamin C Cream contains a 10% Vitamin C Concentration and is the perfect cream to add to your morning skincare routine to revitalize dull, lackluster skin. This revitalizing cream – packed with Vitamin C and Niacinamide – helps brighten skin and boost collagen with its anti-aging properties.

In addition to top ingredients of Vitamin C and Niacinamide – our Vitamin Cream is also formulated with Bakuchiol, a retinol alternative that helps reduce hyperpigmentation and wrinkles. With Vitamins A, Vitamin D and Vitamin E the cream helps to deliver multiple antioxidants to the skin meanwhile Rosehip Oil helps to moisturize skin and leave its appearance glowing and youthful.

    Vitamin C Serum

Serums have a thinner consistency than creams but hold a higher ingredient concentration. They are fast-absorbing and sink deeper into the layers of our skin. For those nights when your skin looks a little extra dull, uneven or textured, try our lightweight Vitamin C Serum. In addition to Vitamin C our serum also contains Sodium Hyaluronate (a version of Hyaluronic Acid with a smaller molecule to allow for better absorption and hydration) and Collagen to help smooth skin texture and reveal luminous and glowing skin.

Can you use Vitamin C Serum and Vitamin C Cream together?

Layering a Vitamin C Serum and Vitamin C Cream can be a great way to take full advantage of Vitamin C.

When using Mario Badescu Vitamin C Cream and Vitamin C Serum – we recommend layering these products by using our cream in the morning and our serum in the evening for the best results.

Our Vitamin C Serum is designed to be used as a treatment serum overnight and is best paired with a nourishing night cream.

Our Vitamin C Cream is a fantastic daytime moisturizer which moisturizes skin and visibly brightens skin tone. When used during the day (with an appropriate sunscreen) it’s been shown that Vitamin C can help to further protect the skin from photodamage caused by UV rays.

How to Layer Vitamin C Cream and Vitamin C Serum

When layering skincare, it’s important that you start the layering process by first using a face serum. Face serums’ lighter texture allows for the product to absorb quickly whilst a face cream is often packed with emollient and occlusive ingredients to lock in moisture and hydrate the skin.

Daytime: Layer a Serum and Vitamin C Cream

Look to use our Vitamin C Cream in the morning daily after applying your favorite Mario Badescu cleanser, toner and serum to experience the benefits of Vitamin C.  When it comes to the face serum you layer with Vitamin C Cream try using Hyaluronic Dew Drops  to help plump skin with hydration during the day. Make sure to follow application with a broadband UVA/UVB SPF 30, as use of Vitamin C may make the skin more sensitive to the sun.

Nighttime: Layer Vitamin C Serum with Night Cream

Use our Vitamin C Serum as a nightly counterpart to our Vitamin C Cream – our Vitamin C Serum is formulated as a treatment serum and is best used overnight when skin cells go through a regeneration and repair process. After removing makeup, cleansing and toning the skin apply 3-4 drops onto your face every other night. Layer our Vitamin C Serum with a nourishing night cream.

Since Vitamin C can be an unstable ingredient, avoid using other AHA, BHA or Retinol products to prevent skin irritation or destabilization of the Vitamin C.

    Shop Vitamin C Skincare.

  • What Does Sun Damaged Skin Look Like?

What Does Sun Damaged Skin Look Like?

Years of spending time outdoors in the sun will take a toll on our skin. The hours and days we’ve logged exposed to the elements can be seen in dark spots, wrinkles, sagging skin and discoloration. Unfortunately for sun lovers, sun damage can age our skin prematurely and increase our risk of developing skin cancer. Read on for the most common signs and symptoms of sun damage on the face and body, and to find out how to improve the appearance of your skin.

Signs & Symptoms Of Sun Damage | How To Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

Sun Damage On The Face: Signs & Symptoms To Look Out For

Unlike typical chronological aging, which is determined by your age and genetics, sun damage occurs when UV light from the sun permanently changes the skin’s structure. These symptoms include:

    Rough, Dry Skin Texture

After many years of UV exposure, you may develop textural changes in the skin. This can look like scaly patches and crusty skin that is thicker in density and raised from the surface. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, you may spot deep lines or dry, scaly patches called actinic keratoses (AKs), which are pre-cancerous skin growths. This type of sun damage can also lead to skin cancer, as AK sometimes turns into a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. Keeping an eye on any changes in your skin and consulting a doctor will help you catch any potential skin cancers early.

    Wrinkles & Fine Lines

Long-term changes in the skin’s collagen, which gives the skin its elasticity, can be a symptom of sun damage. These changes can include fine lines, wrinkles and a thickened skin texture. Unfortunately, lengthy exposure to UV rays prematurely ages your skin and results in the loss of collagen and skin elasticity. In fact, an astonishing 90% of visible aging is caused by exposure to the sun’s UV rays.

    Sagging, Loose Skin

Elastin and collagen are two proteins in the skin that deteriorate, not only due to the natural aging process, but also because of external factors over time. These factors include too much sun exposure, as well as lifestyle choices such as poor nutrition, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking. This breakdown of collagen and elastin production causes loose, sagging skin.

    Spider Veins

As collagen deteriorates, fragile collagen structure leads to decreased pressure around the blood vessels and reduced elasticity of the skin. This change means spider veins are more likely to appear at the skin’s surface as a network of red, purple, and blue lines reminiscent of a spider’s web.

    A Ruddy Complexion

It’s possible for a ruddy complexion to be inherited. However, it can also be caused by excessive sun exposure. Ruddy skin is characterized by a reddish appearance and skin that looks uneven, blotchy or has broken capillaries.

    Hyperpigmentation

Uneven skin pigmentation (or hyperpigmentation) is a broad term that refers to an uneven skin tone or dark spots appearing. With uneven skin tone, you’ll notice parts of the skin have become discolored or darkened, caused by either sun damage or genetics. Skin pigmentation can be categorized as either a raised lesion (papule or plaque) or a flat lesion (patch or macule).

Another type of hyperpigmentation can be seen in moles. Any abnormal change in your skin is a good reason to consult a doctor to check for signs of skin cancer. A spot that was a light color when you first noticed it in your 30s can change appearance later on in life. Keep an eye on these dark spots, and visit your doctor if you notice changes in color, texture, size or shape.

Dark spots, also known as sun spots, liver spots or lentigines, are yet another type of hyperpigmentation. They look like extra-large freckles or flat brown spots. These form from chronic exposure to UV light, and they typically appear on your arms, legs, face, hands, neck and décolletage. This is different from skin pigmentation issues which occur when cells become damaged, reducing melanin production.

If you’ve noticed any of these skin issues, read on to find out how to protect your skin from further sun damage and improve the health of your skin.

How To Protect Your Skin From Sun Damage

If you want to keep your skin looking radiant and healthy long term, below are six the steps you can take to protect your skin. And watch the In The Mix video below for a quick refresher on how to apply it properly.

    1. Apply SPF Every 2 Hours

SPF is a preventative tool but only if you wear it and remember to reapply it. Reapply an SPF of 30 or above evenly every two hours — or more frequently if you are sweating, toweling off or coming into contact with water.

    2. Limit Time Outdoors & Wear Protective Clothing

Restrict your time outdoors when the sun is at its peak (generally from about 10am to 4pm in most parts of the US). The Skin Cancer Foundation says you should cover up with clothing, hats and sunscreen. You should also seek shade, especially when the sun is strongest.

    3. Choose A Sunscreen With SPF 30 Or Higher

If you recognize any of these symptoms of sun damaged skin, the first step you can take is putting the brakes on any further damage. One of the most effective preventative formulas is sunscreen. By introducing SPF into your daily skin care routine, you’re warding off the early signs of aging and other sun damage with minimal effort, so use a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum SPF (sun protection factor) value of 30 and above regularly. Read this guide to learn about the benefits of sunscreen and why you need to wear it every day.

    4. Look For “Broad-Spectrum” On The Label

While SPF measures how well the formula protects you from UVB rays, it won’t tell you anything about protection from UVA light. That’s why the second factor to look for in a sunscreen is a label stating “broad-spectrum.” This label means you’re getting protection from both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays are what you can blame for the signs of wrinkles and fine lines. In comparison, UVB rays are responsible for causing sunburn and skin cancer.

    5. Choose an SPF With Moisturizing Ingredients

If you have dry skin due to sun exposure, particular ingredients will help bring the moisture back. Our Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40 is formulated with zinc oxide plus lilikoi, cocoa seed oil and larch tree, a great moisturizing and nourishing combination of ingredients.

    6. Regularly Check Your Body

Whenever you exit the bath or shower, check your body from head to toe to become familiar with your skin and recognize whether any new spots appear. Keep a close eye on existing spots too, noting whether their appearance alters in any way. A reminder that a change in size, shape, color or border is a red (or pink or brown) flag that should be checked out by your doctor.

  • Does Having Oily Skin Help Prevent Wrinkles?

Does Having Oily Skin Help Prevent Wrinkles?

I grew up with oily skin at a time when a matte look was all the rage. Despite the fact that people would tell me my skin was “glowing,” I spent my teenage years furiously powdering my t-zone to bring down the shine. (There was no such thing as glass skin or glazed donut skin, I can tell you that much.) Fast forward a couple decades and dewy skin is all the rage. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve definitely come to appreciate my natural skin type more and have been able to see it for its advantages.

Regardless of where oily skin has stood in relation to the trend cycle, one thing has remained constant. Throughout my career, I’ve noticed that people tend to believe having oily skin helps prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging. But is it true?

I’ll say upfront, I don’t believe one skin type ages “better” than another. When it comes to aging, each skin type has its own advantages (and disadvantages). Skin fads may come and go, but at the end of the day, your skin type isn’t a trend. It’s something that dictates how your skin should be cared for and what its unique needs are.

Understanding your skin’s strengths and weaknesses is the best way to create a game plan that allows it to age in a healthy, graceful way. If you have oily skin, this post will teach you how to do just that.

The Advantages of Oily Skin and How It Can Help Prevent Wrinkles

What does it actually mean to have “oily” skin? People with oily skin types (like Skin Types 1-4) have a higher density of sebaceous glands. These are the glands that produce oil, and this oil is responsible for providing moisture and shielding our skin from environmental aggressors, bacteria, and more.

Those of us with oily skin are quick to see the downsides, but let’s take a step back and look at some benefits you might not have considered!

Higher Concentrations of Oil Glands May Mean Thicker Skin

One possible benefit of oily skin is that the high density of sebaceous glands means having thicker skin overall. This provides a natural cushion that makes the skin less prone to creasing or folding, which can help slow or prevent the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.

Dr. Sam Lam, a board-certified plastic surgeon who sees a wide range of skin types in his practice every day, echoes this belief: “The best way to understand the supposed bias toward oily skin is to understand how the skin repairs damage, which is the sebaceous (or oil) gland as the main source of regeneration. People with oily skin may have more active oil glands and thereby have more protection. There could be an association of oil glands with thicker skin, which is less prone to collagen breakdown.”

He notes that this isn’t something that’s been scientifically proven, it’s more of a theory based on a combination of existing research and his own observations. After 30 years of working with skin hands-on, I tend to agree with these observations.

While oily skin types may have a leg up when it comes to wrinkle prevention, it’s important to remember that lines and wrinkles aren’t the only components of facial aging. Facial sagging and skin laxity are a natural part of the aging process, and having oily skin doesn’t prevent this.

Sebum Provides Natural Moisture and Protection

Having dry or dehydrated skin can contribute to the development of fine lines, so this is another instance when having oily skin may pay off. Our skin has a harder time holding onto moisture as we age, and having your own built-in moisture from oil production can certainly be beneficial.

Sebum also acts as a shield for our skin, so oilier skin types may have a bit more natural protection against aging triggers like pollution, free radicals, and UV damage (but not enough to skip sunscreen, of course!). This extra bit of protection means it might be easier to maintain bright, even-toned skin, another characteristic of youthful-looking complexions.

All great news for oily skin types, right? Before getting too carried away though, remember that being less prone to wrinkles isn’t the same as being immune. The best way to capitalize on your natural advantages is properly caring for your skin with a consistent routine (and yes, oily skin still needs moisturizer).

Common Aging Concerns for Oily Skin (and What to Do About Them)

Regardless of skin type, we’re all more prone to certain aspects of skin aging than others. The key is understanding which aspects we’re prone to and addressing them early on. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Below, the most common aging concerns for oily skin types and how to get ahead of them.

    Pore size

Speaking from experience, those of us with oilier skin can struggle with pore size as we age. When you have excess sebum flowing through your pores it can stretch them out, making them appear bigger over time. This might not be super noticeable when you’re younger, but as we age we start to lose cushion and volume in our skin. This cushion helps “plump out” enlarged pores, but as the skin becomes more lax, large pores become more obvious.

A smooth, even skin texture is one key feature of youthful-looking skin and it can be difficult to make pores appear smaller once this starts to happen, so this is definitely a great thing to start addressing early on!

    How to Prevent Enlarged Pores

Manage oil production by using the right ingredients for oily skinKeep pores clean by getting regular extractions and exfoliating at homeUse retinol to help preserve your skin’s natural “cushion”

Learn all about the best strategy for minimizing large pores.

    Acne Scars

While not everyone with oily skin experiences acne, many do—especially in their younger years (I know this was the case for me). Breakouts can vary in severity, but if you’re someone who’s dealt with deep nodular or cystic acne, you know all too well it can leave behind indented scarring. This is by far the most difficult form of acne scarring to deal with, and just like enlarged pores, it can become more prominent as we age.

You can manage the effects of acne scarring over time by sticking to a diligent skincare routine that includes collagen-stimulating ingredients. Use a vitamin C serum in the morning to help build collagen and prevent further damage. Use retinol in the evenings and consider consulting with a dermatologist to work your way up to a prescription strength since this will give the most dramatic results. Most importantly, wear sun protection every single day, rain or shine (this sunscreen is perfect for oily skin). While both vitamin C and retinol can help build collagen, protecting against sun damage is key to preventing collagen breakdown in the first place.

If your scarring is severe, professional treatments such as radiofrequency microneedling can be a game-changer.

    Sebaceous Hyperplasia

Last (but not least), having oily skin makes you more prone to sebaceous hyperplasia as you age. Sebaceous hyperplasias are benign skin growths that appear as flat, slightly raised bumps. As I said, they’re completely harmless, but they can be a nuisance. I go to my dermatologist once a year to have these types of growths removed via electric cauterization.

Instagram will load in the frontend.

The Takeaway—Does Oily Skin Age Better?

As you can see, there are plenty of benefits to having an oily skin type. If you’re someone who hasn’t always felt good about having oily skin, I hope learning about these benefits can help you embrace it! To recap, a higher concentration of oil glands leads to thicker skin, which is more resilient against fine lines and wrinkles. Higher sebum production also means more natural moisture and built-in protection from the elements, which can be helpful for maintaining bright, even-toned skin.

With that said, having oily skin doesn’t make you totally immune to wrinkles, especially deep expression lines. It also doesn’t protect against facial sagging, which involves deeper components of our anatomy like fat and muscle. Oily skin types may also struggle with skin texture and large pores as they get older, more so than dry skin types.

At the end of the day, the best way to maintain healthy skin and prevent signs of aging is a well-rounded skincare routine built for your unique skin type. A skincare routine should address ALL of your skin concerns—not just a few (and oily or dry is only one part of the equation). Not sure what your routine should look like? Take this quiz to get started!

Finally, remember that aging is a multifaceted process affected by so many factors such as lifestyle, environment, and genetics. The way I see it, do what you can to take care of your skin, your health, and your happiness, then enjoy the ride 🙂 I believe balance is key and I try to incorporate it into my everyday life.

Up next, learn why you should actually consider yourself lucky if you have acne!

  • How to Calm and Soothe Acne-Prone Skin

How to Calm and Soothe Acne-Prone Skin

Dealing with acne-prone skin can be frustrating and challenging, with acne-prone skin often being sensitive, irritable, and prone to irritation – many acne-focused skincare products also tend to be harsh on skin – causing further irritation and discomfort. However, with the right products and skincare routine, you can achieve a calm and clear complexion.

    What is Acne Prone Skin?

Acne-prone skin is characterized by an overproduction of sebum, clogged pores, and the presence of acne-causing bacteria. It is essential to approach skincare with a focus on gentle yet effective products that reduce inflammation, unclog pores, and promote healing.

What Is a Good Skincare Routine to Calm Acne-Prone Skin?

When caring for acne-prone skin pay attention to these: Cleanse, tone & balance, treat, moisturize and soothe!

Step 1: Cleanse Skin with an Acne Facial Cleanser

Start your routine by using our Acne Facial Cleanser. This gentle yet powerful cleanser is formulated with salicylic acid and soothing botanicals to effectively cleanse the skin without stripping it of essential moisture.

To use: Wet your face with warm water, apply a small amount of cleanser, and massage it in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Step 2: Tone Acne-Prone Skin with Special Cucumber Lotion

After cleansing skin, acne-prone skin can benefit from using a toner to clarify and balance skin. For irritated acne-prone skin try our Special Cucumber Lotion Toner. This toner is enriched with cucumber extract – an ingredient known to help soothe and clam irritated skin. The formula also contains sulfur to help purify the skin, control excess oil, and minimize breakouts making it great for acne-prone skin.

To use: Moisten a cotton pad with the toner and gently swipe it over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Allow it to dry naturally.

Use a Spot Treatment for Blemishes and Breakouts

If you have specific patches or instances of acne and breakouts on your skin, now is the time to target these individual blemishes. You can choose any spot treatment, for this process – we recommend our Drying Lotion, Drying Cream, or Buffering Lotion. These specialized products are formulated to help draw impurities away from the skin and reduce the size of acne and breakouts on the skin.

To use: Apply a small amount directly to the affected area using a clean fingertip or a cotton swab. Allow it to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Top tip: For giving care to blemishes and breakouts during the day – try our Drying Patches for Acne-Prone Skin. These hydrocolloid patches help to draw out moisture from whiteheads and reduce their appearance. Each patch features a combination of blemish reducing ingredients including salicylic acid and tea tree.

Use a Serum and Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin

Even if your skin is prone to acne – it is important to care for and moisturize skin. On the serum front try our Anti-Acne Serum  an oil-free, gel-based facial serum which helps to clarify skin and reduce facial congestion by cleansing pores. On the moisturizer side finish off with our lightweight oil-free moisturizer (also available with SPF) or our Control Moisturizer for Oily Skin

How to use: Apply facial serum on acne-prone areas and follow by pressing a pea-sized amount of moisturizer over skin.

    Face Masks for Acne-Prone Skin

Treating with Drying Mask for Acne-Prone Skin:

For skin that is especially acne-prone and/or has visible breakouts and blemishes on the skin — once or twice a week, incorporate our Drying Mask into your routine. This mask contains sulfur, kaolin clay, and calamine to absorb excess oil, purify the pores, and calm redness.

How to use: Apply a thin layer of the mask to the entire face, avoiding the eye area. Allow it to dry for 15-20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry.

Calming with Healing and Soothing Mask:

To moisturize your acne-prone skin without causing further breakouts try our Healing and Soothing Mask. Designed to help draw out oils and impurities from the skin whilst also helping to balance and moisturize – it is specifically designed for oily and troubled skin. Key ingredients include Soothing Oatmeal and Allantoin, Purifying Kaolin Clay and Oil-absorbent Zinc Oxide.

How to use: Apply a generous layer to your face and neck, leave it on for 20 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry.

    Sunscreen and Acne-Prone Skin

Many skincare products formulated for acne-prone skin and those with acne often contain ingredients like AHA’s (think Salicylic Acid) and BHA’s (Glycolic Acid) which help to break down dead skin cells – but as a result, they can also make skin more sensitive to the sun (also known as photo-sensitivity). As such it is important to wear sunscreen daily to protect skin from the sun. Try our Mineral Sunscreen with SPF 30.

Why would I use Mario Badecsu’s Drying collection to calm acne-prone skin?

Our “drying” products (like our famed Drying Lotion and our accompanying Drying Cream and Drying Mask) may sound counterintuitive for calming acne-prone skin, as the term “drying” can evoke thoughts of further dehydration and irritation. However, it is important to clarify that these products are specifically formulated to combat acne and promote a balanced complexion without excessively drying out the skin.

Our “drying” collection is powered by two main ingredients: Sulfur and Zinc Oxide.

Sulfur’s antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties can help to fight acne-causing bacteria, regulate sebum production, and gently exfoliate to unclog pores, whereas Zinc oxide is known for its ability to soothe and protects the skin, reducing redness and acting as a barrier against environmental pollutants.

Why You Should Avoid Abrasive Cleansers and Physical Exfoliants on Acne-Prone Skin

While exfoliation is important for removing dead skin cells and promoting cell turnover, using abrasive cleansers and physical exfoliants can cause irritation and spread acne-causing bacteria on the skin. These harsh products can aggravate the skin, leading to increased inflammation and potential acne scarring. Instead, opt for chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid or glycolic acid, which help to break down dead skin cells and are gentler and more effective for acne-prone skin.

    Shop skincare for acne-prone skin.

Spa Treatments To Get Ready For Summer

Everybody likes to look and feel their best when summer brings the heat (and the shorts and swimsuits). And since your Clients will be looking for ways to prep for everything from beach days to summer weddings, here are some treatments that can help them get ready to glow from face to toes — and quite a few places in between.

The heat sometimes makes baring your skin a necessity. While we’re all for covering up when the sun’s rays are beaming down, it’s usually more practical (and comfortable) to lay off the layers in the heat. This means showing off parts of the body that may have been covered up for months. Luckily there is a long list of treatments that can help Clients feel good in their skin.

Facials | Exfoliation | Body Wraps | Hair Removal

    Facials

Starting the season with a glow is major #goals for many, so summer skin care for the face is probably at the top of the to-do list for your Clients. And nothing screams summer like our Tropical Superfood Facial! With beautiful textures, delicious sensorials and all sorts of vitamins and antioxidants, this treatment visibly renews the look of skin and delivers brightening properties for a healthy-looking glow.

We recommend these steps to address your Clients’ dull, tired-looking skin and help them achieve renewed, refreshed and glowing complexions. Antioxidant-rich products are great for getting the skin ready for summer because they combat dull, tired skin for a revitalized, luminous and more even-looking complexion.

Cleanse: Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Cleanser refines pores for all skin types. For normal to dry skin, we recommend the hydrating benefits of coconut milk and coconut oil found in the Coconut Milk Cleanser.

Tone: Pineapple Refining Tonique exfoliates, brightens and hydrates while preparing skin for the next step.

Exfoliate: For all skin types, including sensitive, the Mangosteen Lactic Pro Peel 10% gently resurfaces and refines pores.

Masque: The Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Masque contains a blend of citrus, leafy greens and avocado oil that help reduce the look of drying environmental damage, as well as fine lines and wrinkles. The Stone Crop Masque is hydrating and nourishing and moisturizing thanks for ingredients like lemon and honey.

Massage: The Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer and the Rosehip Triple C+E Firming Oil are both great options for this relaxing step.

Essence: Kombucha Microbiome Balancing Essence restores the look of balanced skin, enhances the appearance of luminosity and gently primes the skin ahead of the next steps.

Serum: The ingredients in the Citrus & Kale Potent C+E Serum improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles and reduce the appearance of free radical damage, while the Bright Skin Licorice Root Booster-Serum brightens the look of the skin.

Moisturizer: All skin types can benefit from the Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer or the Stone Crop Whip Moisturizer. For added benefits, a scoop of Superfood Booster-Powder will level up the glow factor.

Eye Cream: Hydrate and nourish the delicate eye area with a thin layer of Bearberry Eye Repair Cream.

Sun Protection: The skin can be more sensitive to the sun after a facial treatment – especially when peels and exfoliants are used. A layer of the Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40 will offer a nice layer of protection when your Client leaves the salon, and make sure to send them home with a reminder to reapply an SPF every 2 hours.

    Exfoliation

Exfoliating the skin on the body can do wonders as summer approaches by getting rid of the dead skin cells that are lingering after some cold, dry months, to reveal fresher, smoother-looking skin. A beneficial treatment on its own, a body exfoliation is also a great add-on before another treatment, like a body wrap.

The Tropical Escape Refining Body Protocol is ideal as we enter the summer months. Suitable for all skin types, it starts with the Coconut Sugar Scrub which sloughs off dead skin and hydrates with rich coconut oil. The Mango Enzyme Body Wrap is the next step. It gently exfoliates with active enzymes, alpha hydroxy acids and vitamins, and it leaves the skin looking refreshed. A massage with Apricot Body Oil helps the skin feel soft and supple. For normal to dry Clients, a layer of the Monoi Age Corrective Night Body Cream is the perfect way to end the treatment — or better yet, send them home with a retail-size tube and they can extend the effects long after they leave the spa.

    Body Wraps

Body wraps are a relaxing and rejuvenating treatment that can nourish and prepare your Clients’ skin for summer. Whether they’re looking for hydration and moisture after a long winter, want to improve their skin’s texture, hope to minimize the look of cellulite — or a combination of all of the above — there’s a treatment for them. Body wraps are also customizable based on your Clients’ needs. Some great options for summer include:

    Mango Enzyme Body Wrap

For Clients looking to hydrate and give the skin a smoother look, the Mango Enzyme Body Wrap is a fantastic option. Mango is high in antioxidants and Vitamin A, along with extensive moisturizing benefits. Plus, the combination of pineapple, lactic acid and glycolic acid gently exfoliates skin all over. And since it’s summer, it’s a great time to lean into the Vitamin C, which helps to tone and refresh the look of the skin while brightening. This delicious mango-scented body wrap also contains a Biocomplex2™, a booster of antioxidants that restores the look of elasticity and youthfulness.

    Chocolate Truffle Body Wrap

For a real treat, the Chocolate Truffle Body Wrap is a deliciously scented option with lots of benefits. This wrap tightens and tones the look of crepey, wrinkled skin, making it an ideal choice for addressing signs of too much sun in summers past. Plus, cocoa is high in antioxidants, while almond, jojoba and macadamia nut oils soften and hydrate.

    Herbal Cellulite Treatment

According to the Cleveland Clinic, 80–90% of all women who’ve gone through puberty have cellulite — the dimpled, puckered skin that’s created by collections of fat that push against the connective tissue. While there’s nothing wrong with cellulite, many people seek to minimize its appearance. Even though there is no “cure” for cellulite, the look can be improved with a body wrap designed to target the affected areas like thighs, buttocks, lower abdomen and arms. The Herbal Cellulite Treatment can help the skin appear firmer and more elastic with paprika and skin-safe stinging nettle, ingredients that invigorate the look of the skin. The formulation also contains bioflavonoids and honey which enrich the skin with moisture and help encourage the look of vitality and youthfulness.

    Hair Removal

Whether your Clients opt for wax, lasers or shaving at home, there are a few steps that can make the process run more smoothly this summer. Since one of the biggest concerns when it comes to hair removal is ingrown hairs, we recommend a little TLC before any wax, razor or other hair removal session begins.

A good body scrub or gentle exfoliation will help clear off any dead skin that could prevent the razor or wax from getting to some of the hairs, leaving them stuck below the surface and potentially causing ingrown hairs. Body scrubs are great to gently slough off the dead skin. A salicylic acid or glycolic acid a couple of days before a hair removal session is another option. These exfoliators encourage faster cell turnover and, in doing so, get rid of any dead skin cells that might otherwise cling on longer than you’d like. A swipe of the Clear Skin Willow Bark Exfoliating Peel should do the trick. Because it’s ideal to exfoliate a day or two before waxing, it’s best to advise that your Clients do it at home. Or if they’re at the spa for a scrub or exfoliation treatment, let them know that they’re all prepped to shave a day or two after the appointment.

After a waxing treatment, calm, hydrate and refresh the area with the Stone Crop Masque. Then apply the Stone Crop Serum or Facial Recovery Oil. And finally, don’t forget to moisturize. The Stone Crop Hydrating Gel or Echinacea Recovery Cream are good options. These steps are ideal for soothing skin irritation following a waxing session.
